The picture at the top says whites and non-whites. Almost everything back then was segregated, the buses, bathrooms, drinking fountains, restaurants, the black people could be arrested if they didn't move out of the way of white people walking. There were so many rules against the black people at that time. It was extremely unfair because the white people's stuff that they was obviously a lot better than the black people's, for instance, the white people's bathrooms were a lot cleaner than the black people's bathrooms, the white people's drinking fountains had colder water than the black people's drinking fountains. Much more money was used for white people's stuff than the black people's.
The picture to the left represents the life of black people back in the days of Apartheid. Any other black person could be grabbed from his home and away from his family by force and be sold to slave-owners. When black people turned into a slave, they were respected like property and the rule was that the owner may do whatever he wishes with his property. If the slaves stepped the slightest bit out of line, they would be lashed with a sharp edged whip usually by the master. They would be asked to pick cotton with their bare hands, they would be asked to farm fields, build houses, and whatever the master wanted them to do, they would do, or else be lashed.
